The fight against cancer is a very personal one for me. When my youngest son was just six days old, and I was only twenty, my father lost his valiant fight against cancer. Twelve years later I heard the frightening words "You have cancer," followed by "with only a 24% chance of survival." I’m happy to say that not only did I survive, but because of early detection and aggressive treatment, today I’m thriving. These experiences left me with an overwhelming need to do everything in my power to help fight the monster that has threatened my family entirely too many times.

This summer I will be walking a total of 100 miles in two long distance endurance events. These events are designed to raise funding and awareness for the fight against breast cancer. To participate I am required to raise a minimum of $4000. This is where I need your help.

I would like to invite you to participate in my 2nd Annual Silent Auction/Pub Night to be held on Thursday, June 24, 2004. The money raised at this event will help fund cutting edge cancer research being conducted at the University of Washington as well as supporting local breast health programs, education and support for those who currently battle breast cancer.

Here’s how you can help:
1. Contribute an item to my auction. Some items that have sold well at past auctions include gift baskets, unique items, trips, event tickets and wine. I have enclosed a donation form or you can give me a call at (425) 923-7757 with any questions.

2. Mark your calendar now and plan to attend the auction on Thursday, June 24, 2004. The auction will be held at the Kirkland Avenue Pub, 205 Kirkland Ave. We encourage you to bring a friend or colleague and your checkbook!

Your generosity will allow the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation to fund breast cancer research, education, screening and treatment programs, as well as the National Philanthropic Trust Breast Cancer Fund, to provide a permanent endowment for breast cancer initiatives.
In return for your generosity, you will receive recognition from auction guests and others within the community, as well as know that you have contributed to the eventual defeat of this monster we call cancer.
Thank you in advance for your support of this important event.

To ensure inclusion of your donation in the official auction catalog, please submit the Procurement Form before June 1, 2004. If you would like information about attending this year’s auction or have questions, please call me at (425) 923-7757.

Together we can make this event a success!
Sincerely,

Penny Kellam
