12/26/2005

Can't remember the last time you camped...in a tent? Worried about not knowing anyone on your event? Trying to figure out the best way to pack your bag...within the weight limit? Looking for moral support, fundraising ideas, blister cures, new stretches, or just new friends? Do I have an offer for you!!

Fort Ebey Training Walk/Campout Weekend

When: Friday, August 6th - Sunday, August 8th, 2010
Where: Fort Ebey State Park, Whidbey Island, WA (about 1.5 hour north of Seattle)
What: Join me for an awesome training weekend in a drop dead gorgeous setting!

FRIDAY: We'll meet Friday night at the campground and take a short 5 mile stroll along the bluff just in time for an amazing sunset. We'll have time to set up camp and visit before bed.

SATURDAY: Saturday morning we'll get up bright and early for a quick breakfast then leave from the campground for our training walk. Our 20 mile day begins on forest trails then winds through peaceful farmland into downtown Coupeville where our trusty Crew will provide lunch for us in a lovely park setting. After lunch we'll be treated to even more breathtaking views of the water as we wind our way back to the campground. During the day there will be plenty of opportunities to stop and enjoy the scenery and you won't want to forget your camera for this one! The route includes level walking as well as rolling hills. Our wonderful volunteer Crew will be there all day supporting us and manning Sweep vehicles just in case you need a shorter option. After our walk we'll have dinner, visit and head for the tent.

SUNDAY: Sunday will find us up and about early so that we have time to pack our individual bags. After a quick breakfast we'll head out for a shorter walk - about 12 miles that will retrace some of our Saturday route. After we're done walking you'll head home.

Cost: $60 per person. Cost includes camping & parking fees, all food, snacks and beverages including our favorite - sports drink! Payment must be made prior to the weekend and is non-refundable. I know it sounds harsh but it's the only way I can cover the cost of this event! Space is very limited and your spot is not confirmed until I receive your payment. Checks should be mailed to Penny Kellam, 1702 104th Pl SW, Everett, WA 98204.

You will be responsible for bringing your own sleeping gear, walking equipment and any special dietary foods. Basically you will want to pack as if you are going to your actual event. It's a great way to try out that new sleeping mat or to find out how warm your sleeping bag really is! Most "communal" camping equipment will be supplied (tents, stoves, lanterns, etc.) As the weekend draws closer I?ll be sending out a request list for any needed equipment.

This will be the tenth year that I've planned this event and we have always had an absolute blast. It's a great way to connect with fellow walkers and share some amazing energy. If you'd like to view a few pictures from past years log onto my pledge page and take a look around!

Please feel free to drop me a note with any questions or concerns. I really hope you will be able to join me!
